Toponymes Littoraux Espagnols Entre Emprunts Linguistiques Et Marqueurs Identitaires Culturels: Le Littoral Ouest Algérien Comme Cas D’étude

Résumé:
Cet article présente la richesse de la toponymie en langue espagnole dans le littoral ouest algérien. Il vise à relier l’espace à la langue ainsi qu’à la culture populaire à laquelle les toponymes espagnols sont soumis. Il y sera démontré que les populations du littoral ouest sont très attachées à ces noms de lieux au point d’en faire non seulement un signe culturel et d’appartenance géographique, mais aussi un marqueur affectif. Quoiqu’ils aient résistés aux tentatives officielles de ‘rebaptisations’, certains toponymes ne sont connus que par les autochtones. D’autres en revanche, malgré tous les moyens mis en œuvre pour ‘arabiser’ les noms des ces lieux, ont survécus dans leurs habitudes langagières. Je démontrerai que les connaissances sous-jacentes à ces noms (renvoyant très souvent à des histoires mythiques) révèlent toute une richesse culturelle qui est fragile et latente du fait que la majorité de ces toponymes ne sont pas répertoriés.

Abstract:
This study aims to link space to language as well as to the popular culture to which Spanish toponyms are subject. I will demonstrate that the inhabitants of the Algerian western coast are very attached to these place names to the point of making them not only a cultural and geographical sign, but also an affective marker. Although they have resisted official attempts of ‘renaming’ them, some toponyms are known only by locals. Others, on the other hand, despite all the means implemented to ‘Arabize’ the names of these places, have survived in the speech habits of the inhabitants of the western coast. It will also be a question of demonstrating that the knowledge underlying these names (very often referring to mythical stories) reveals a whole cultural richness which is fragile and latent due to the fact that the majority of these toponyms have not been officially listed.
