Abstract

The scientific and intellectual rise that the Arab countries are attempting requires them to keep up with modern research and theories in various sciences and fields, most of which are unfortunately  in a language other than Arabic, so it was necessary for researchers and translators to work on translating these researches into Arabic so that readers can benefit from them. However, these translations were linked to various  theories, as a result the translation changes accordingly, especially at the level of terminology. For example, there are those who see the necessity of finding the corresponding term to that of  the source language, and those who are satisfied with finding the equivalent term to it in the target language. Thus, differences  in translations occurs , in addition to the different viewpoint of researchers and translators, with distinct  cultural and cognitive backgrounds.

One of those terms that has been given various translations is the term “pragmatics.” including: pragmatics, pragmatism,...ect. Therefore, the research seeks to highlight the extent of the difference in the translation of this term and to identify the most important reasons for this difference.

Keywords: translation, terminology, pluralism, pragmatics.
